In recent times, climate change and the environment has been at the forefront of many people’s minds. In June 2019, the UK became the first major economy to pass the net zero greenhouse gas emissions law by 2050. At SureStore self-storage, we’ve been working to improve sustainability, reduce our carbon footprint and contribute towards a cleaner, more eco-friendly planet. Check out some of our green credentials and innovative plans for a greener future. 

At SureStore, we take our responsibility to the environment incredibly seriously. To reduce our carbon footprint, we have implemented the following measures across our self-storage locations:

✅ Solar generated energy 

At SureStore, we’re able to generate free electricity using solar panels located on the roofs of our modern self-storage facilities. Our solar PV panels can be found at each of our self-storage facilities and convert sunlight (photons) directly into electricity (voltage). SureStore has access to live data feeds from all of our locations to show our PV generation. 

✅ Proximity-activated LED lighting. 

We use energy-saving LED lighting throughout our SureStore self-storage facilities.  Roughly, one LED bulb will minimise greenhouse gas emissions by almost half a ton!

✅ Recycled building materials & eco-friendly construction

We use recycled steel in the construction of our purpose-built self-storage facilities. All of our 

Storage locations have been constructed with specifications beyond the standard building regulation requirements and several of our new storage facilities have been built to BREEAM standards. We hope to achieve Net Zero Carbon levels when constructing our next generation of SureStore self-storage facilities. We also strive to build into the local environment with minimal disruption and use local suppliers to minimise transport and greenhouse gas emissions. 

✅ Electric car charging points

Our self-storage facilities also boast electric car charging points powered by our solar energy system. These are installed in the car park and are free for customer use, so you can plug in and drive away!  

✅ Bird nests & beehives

It’s not only humans who struggle to find an adequate home with enough space, that’s why SureStore supports local wildlife habitats and provides nests for a wide range of birds on the roofs of our self-storage facilities. We are also working on rewilding our garden with bee colonies and are proud to have an on-site beehive at our Cannock storage facility! 

A Green Future? It’s a Sure thing! 

According to Government Data from 2016, it is estimated that over 18% of total waste was generated by commercial and industrial organisations. At SureStore, we take responsibility and are always willing to explore new ways to improve sustainability and increase our green credentials, even the hosting for our website is powered by 100% green renewable energy! 

Where possible, SureStore strives to align ourselves with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals of our investors and partners. Despite being a relatively new and growing company, we’ve already generated a significant positive change and will continue to prioritise our environmental values and reach our green goals and targets!
