Anderton Boat Lift

Known to many as the Cathedral of the Canals, Anderton Boat Lift is an impressive example of Victorian engineering. Built in 1875, the remarkable structure is considered a scheduled monument included in the country’s National Heritage list. Along with the informative Visitor centre, coffee shop, and children’s play area, it’s no wonder Anderton Boat lift was 2018’s Large Visitor Attraction of the year winner.

The working hydraulic lift raises boats and barges 50 feet from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal. Visitors can enjoy a half an hour boat ride up and down the lift or, if you’re feeling brave, try Walking the Lift to experience the fantastic view.

Along with the informative Visitor centre, coffee shop, and children’s play area, it’s no wonder Anderton Boat lift was 2018’s Large Visitor Attraction of the year winner. There’s also Anderton Nature Park, where visitors can walk alongside the River Weaver and witness the wildlife, and the nearby Northwich Woods. Odeon Cinema

Located in Northwich Community Woodlands, Marbury Country Park is a beautiful green space where the whole family can explore lime avenues and nature trails or feed the ducks on Marbury Mere. The park also links to several national cycling routes as well as being an excellent place for horse-riding.

The park has a rich history as a grand estate in the 19^th Century and retains charming features such as the arboretum and community orchard. However, perhaps one of the more exciting features of the Marbury Country Park grounds is the Marbury Swimming Club Outdoor Pool. Visitors can spend the day at practising their lengths, splashing around or diving off the springboards at this hidden gem- British weather permitted of course!

Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse

An exciting day out for local history enthusiasts, The Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse takes visitors on a journey through Northwich’s past. With innovative displays, including film footage and reconstructions, the museum explores the history of the area’s industry, from salt-extraction to boat-building, and the market trade. The museum also provides an insight into local transport over the years and archaeological findings.

Located in an old workhouse building, a Victorian refuge for the poor, Weaver Hall Museum gives children the opportunity to experience a lesson in a workhouse classroom, complete with old-fashioned outfits!
