Self Storage Insurance: What You Need To Know

At SureStore, we pride ourselves on providing a range of affordable self-storage services with flexible managed storage plans. Whether you’re storing e-commerce business stock or the entire contents of your 5-bedroom home while you relocate, you’ll always benefit from a storage solution that suits your needs.

Our self-storage units range in size from 10sqft to over 200sqft and are available on a long-term or short-term basis, so you’ll only ever pay for the storage space you require and how long you need it. Although there are no additional storage charges, we do insist that your stored possessions are fully insured. Take a look at some of our frequently asked questions and discover what you need to know about self-storage insurance at SureStore.

What is Self-Storage Insurance?

Self-Storage insurance protects your home or business possessions from any risks while they are in storage at any of our SureStore self-storage facilities. All of our SureStore locations boast a state-of-the-art security system, including 24/7 CCTV surveillance, individual intruder alarms and a remote access procedure using unique keycode entry.

However, for further peace of mind and protection, all reputable self-storage facilities will insist on storage insurance to cover a wide range of eventualities from theft to fire damage, water damage and natural disasters. At SureStore you will need insurance cover to store your possessions. We can arrange a bespoke insurance policy to begin the day you move in.

What items can Self-Storage Insurance cover?

Self-storage insurance can cover a wide range of stored possessions as long as they do not exceed the insurance cover value. Whether you’re storing important documents, clothing, furniture and household items or sports memorabilia at SureStore, you can benefit from our self-storage insurance and further peace of mind. We also offer insurance policies for our business storage customers who need to store equipment, tools, stock or excess products.

Some items cannot be insured as they are not permitted to be kept in storage. These include food or perishable goods that could attract vermin, living creatures such as birds or fish, combustible or flammable materials, potentially dangerous chemicals or materials, anything that emits fumes or odour, illegal substances and compressed gas. If you’re unsure about the status of any items you’d like to store, don’t hesitate to contact your nearest SureStore location.

Once you’ve found an insurance policy to suit your self-storage needs, we recommend creating a record or inventory of your stored possessions. This is especially important if they are rare or of high value and can help to ensure that you are reimbursed adequately in the unexpected event of damage or theft.

Are my stored possessions insured at SureStore?

Your stored possessions are not insured automatically at SureStore but we must insist that they are covered. To make the insurance process as straightforward as possible for our SureStore customers, SureStore offers direct, bespoke or flat rate insurance policies when you receive an instant self-storage quote.

When you’ve agreed to a storage insurance policy, the cover will only take once your items are in the self-storage unit. Please be aware that you may require a separate Goods in Transit Insurance policy and that once your possessions are removed from storage they are no longer covered by a storage insurance policy.

How do I pay for my SureStore Self-Storage Insurance?

Booking insurance directly through SureStore is one of the quickest and most efficient ways to make sure your stored possessions are protected. Once covered, you’ll then be charged on a 28-day billing cycle along with your self-storage payments so you can be sure your stored possessions are fully insured and protected at our SureStore self-storage facilities.
