We caught up with SureStore Area Manager Andy Spiers to hear more about his role and responsibilities as well as the daily operations at our self-storage facilities. Take a look at our post to discover what a day in the life of a self-storage expert looks like.  

Andy began his career in self-storage in 2007 and gained experience in the industry working for another national company. He joined the SureStore team in October 2019 as a Store Manager at SureStore Bolton. In this role, Andy managed a team of Store Assistants and worked hard to provide excellent customer service and flexible managed storage plans for home and business storage customers. 

After excelling in his role, Andy went on to manage the new SureStore Wigan and SureStore Trafford self-storage facilities. In May 2022, he was recently promoted to Area Manager mainly being based working at SureStore Trafford. 

Intrigued to hear more about daily operations at SureStore, we asked Andy to describe a day in the life of a self-storage expert, “As Store Manager at SureStore, I ensure that myself and everyone I work with makes the self-storage process as stress-free as possible for our customers.”  

Andy, like all of the SureStore team, is passionate about self-storage and strives to make sure our customers receive the best customer service and a self-storage solution that’s right for them. He loves how every day is different at SureStore and values being able to help customers with some of the most important events in their lives, whether they’re moving house or starting a new business!  

As well as the obvious uses for self-storage units, such as keeping business stock or storing your household items while in-between house moves, Andy has also helped many customers find self-storage solutions for more alternative uses. “Over the past 15 years, I have seen a variety of uses for the units that include Ballet Studios, Gyms and Band Practice Studios.” 

However, one of the most unique and charming uses of a self-storage unit that Andy has witnessed was “a gentleman that used to use the unit as his own personal library – coming in every Friday to sit in his storage unit and read in peace.”

Day-to-day at SureStore, Andy arranges flexible storage solutions and assists customers with choosing the right storage unit for their needs, with sizes ranging from 10sqft to 275sqft. However, Andy’s role as Manager also includes supporting businesses that rent self-storage units or trade counters in their daily operations and maintaining the facility. 

A member of the Young Storage Network (YSN), a professional association for self-storage industry employees under 40,  Andy continues to network and develop his skills and knowledge of self-storage. When Andy isn’t being a fantastic self-storage expert at SureStore, he enjoys playing the guitar and loves to explore amazing places around the world with his partner Amy.
